Search with ChatGPT temporarily disabled
Open AI has disabled Bing’s search feature that it added to its ChatGPT AI services. Open AI stated that “We have disabled the Browse with a Bing beta feature in an abundance of caution, while we work to fix this so as to be fair to content owners.”
Open AI has said that it will be bringing back the feature, but it was forced to disable it for the time being because it enabled access to paywalled material.
Browse with Bing. Open AI added Bing Search as a premium ChatGPT service in May. Bing Search provided ChatGPT with more current and timely information. ChatGPT contains data from as far back as 2021, so using Bing Chat was a more efficient way to answer questions. Bing Search can be used in ChatGPT to “provide more timely and up-to date answers” with web access.
ChatGPT Plus customers only.
Disabled July 3, 2023. Open AI will disable the Browse with Bing function on ChatGPT on July 3, 2023. The company stated that it was disabled out of “an abundance of caution”. The AI company said that it was working hard to restore the beta as soon as possible.
Paywalled content loophole Many noticed last week that ChatGPT’s Browse with Bing was able access content behind paywalls. This is a tweet that I noticed back then.
How it looks. This screenshot shows how it’s enabled for Plus subscribers.
Why we care. Searchers and those with questions will find ChatGPT even more helpful with the Browse with Bing option. The feature is not known when it will be back, but I believe that it will be soon.
