Salesforce will increase its prices in the average by 9% starting next month. The company announced this yesterday. It is the first time in seven years that Salesforce has increased its prices.

What will be affected? In August, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Marketing Cloud will all see an increase.

Could be a sign for things to come. SaaS doesn’t rely on physical products to make its products and hasn’t been forced to raise prices because of inflation. Many companies, including Microsoft and Apple, have begun to increase the price of cloud-based subscriptions.

Why we care. A 9% increase in price after seven years is not unreasonable. It’s even more true when you look at all the improvements Salesforce made to their products.

Here are some tips to remember. If you are negotiating, you might want to push the closing date forward to lock in your old price. Review existing contracts and see if they are due to renew soon. If so, consider renewing them early. This is the time to review your technology and make sure you are getting what you paid for.
