In a leaked email, the social network provided detailed guidelines on how brands can be integrated on its platform.
The message provided content suggestions, engagement tips, feature recommendations, and examples of good posts for inspiration.
Why do we care. Threads’ algorithm balances content discovery and post ranking in news feeds, with the latter receiving a high priority. The app wants to encourage users to explore by serving them posts outside their network. Brands have a great opportunity to reach new audiences and maximize their reach. Threads’ transparency about what type of content will be prioritized will allow brands to make better-informed decisions regarding the content they create in order to maximize their visibility on the platform.
What did Meta say? Meta emailed content producers, giving them tips on what they should post to Threads. This was revealed by , Business Insider.
- Create a grand entry. In the leaked email, “epic entries” are a combination of images, memes, and “open-ended questions” to announce a brand’s or influencer’s joining Threads. The email cites Netflix, Gabrielle Union and Backstreet Boys as examples of brands who may be looking for inspiration.
- Create interactive content to engage your followers. According to Instagram, interactive content can be a good way for brands and businesses on Threads. The platform seems to encourage content that generates more content, whether it’s creating polls or starting conversations. The email stated that Threads does not have the tool to create polls yet. However, brands can post two images with emojis as a voting option.
- Create a competition or challenge. Meta encourages brands and influencers alike to create their challenges. This is another way of generating more content by posting. The email leaked cites an example: “If I reach 100,000 followers, I will donate $100”.
- Use Puns and talk about Threads. The leaked email cites an example of a Meta pun: “Get Meta About Being on Threads.” Meta seems to also be encouraging postings the Threads platform.
- Browse Threads’ current tools. Influencers and brands are encouraged to take advantage of the features available on Threads, such as sharing up to 10 photos or 5-minute video clips. The social platform wants to encourage users to use the existing tools to enhance the app.
Why now? Threads had a great start, with over 150 million downloads in the first two weeks since its launch on July 5th. Similarweb reports that user engagement is slowing down. According to , the number of daily active users has dropped from 49 million in July to 23.6 millions a week after. Meta’s goal is to maintain momentum by promoting content that generates more engagement and produces more content.
