TikTok launched its Commercial Content Library in order to be transparent about the paid advertising.
Marketers can use the database to find out more about TikTok paid ads, as well as commercial content such as:
- Advertising creatives.
- Dates when the advertisement ran.
- The main parameters for targeting (e.g. age, gender) age, gender).
- The number of people served with the advertisement.
Why we care. This data will help marketers better understand campaign performance and TikTok’s algorithm. These key data will reveal which creatives are successful, as well as what ideas do not work. This data will allow marketers to make better decisions and maximize reach and ROI.
Rules. Everyone in the world has access to TikTok Commercial Content Library. Only data from Europe, however, is available.
- TikTok’s team has already begun working on ways of including advertising data from other countries in the future, such as America. A date has not yet been confirmed for the release.
TikTok offers a Commercial content API.
- To access the Commercial Content API for marketers, they will need to create an account on TikTok Developers and submit a request. This will then be reviewed by a team from the platform to ensure that data is not misused.
What TikTok says. TikTok has announced its new ads transparency library via its official blog. A spokesperson stated:
- We tested an early version with researchers and civil societies to collect feedback in the last few months, before making it available more widely.
- We’ve improved the data quality, added more targeting parameters and improved our testing based on expert input and feedback.
- We welcome feedback about how we can improve the APIs. We will continue to provide updates to support independent research into TikTok and to improve transparency.
