le fixes link reports in Search Console

Google confirmed that there is a problem with the Link Report in Google Search console. This issue appears to affect the number of links displayed in this report.

John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate , said: “To update, we found something” in the link report. He said, “Hopefully this will be resolved by the end of the week.”

Link report problems. Last week, I reported that many people are experiencing a drop in the number links reported by Google Search Console. John Mueller initially said that the report was fine, but this morning he apologized for all the back-and-forth and confirmed that the team had found an issue.

Here are screenshots from my site that show a fraction of its links compared to a year and even years and years before:

The screenshot below is from the month of July 2022.

You can go back and see that in August 2018 there were 2.5 million links.

Some report that only a few links are being reported by Google Search Console, while others report zero links.

Google is fixing the problem. John Mueller, from Google, said that a fix would be available this week. Will it fix all the missing links, or only those users who are seeing a fraction? We don’t know, but will keep track of things.

Why do we care? The truth is that counting your links in Search Console will not make a big difference to how much traffic or ranking you receive from Google Search. It’s not a big deal if Google shows fewer links than expected in these reports.

It is important to know the sites that link to you, and to make sure these reports are accurate.
