Google Analytics 4 adds dozens of dimensions and metrics to help marketers during the holiday shopping season.
New ecommerce metrics and dimensions were added to the Custom Report Builder as part of GA4’s latest update.
This new feature allows you to edit standard ecommerce report templates as well.
Why do we care? These new GA4 dimensions should allow you to better understand campaigns, make informed decisions and extract insights.
New ecommerce dimensions. The following dimensions are now available for custom reports in GA4:
- Item affiliation
- Brand name
- Category of Item
- Item Category 2
- Article category 3
- Item Category 4
- Item Category 5
- Item ID
- List ID
- Name of the item list
- List position
- Location ID
- Item name
- Name for the item promotion
- Promotional slot for Item
- Name of the item promotion
- The item variant
- Shipping Tier
New metrics for ecommerce. The following metrics are now available in GA4’s custom report builder.
- Gross item revenue
- Gross Purchase Revenue
- Refund amount for items
- The item revenue
- Cart added
- Check out the items
- Clicked on items in promotion
- Purchases
- Items viewed
- List of items viewed
- Viewed items in Promotion
- Purchase Revenue
- Refund Amount
- Shipping Cost
- Tax
New revenue metric. In exploration, GA4 also introduced new revenue metrics:
- Gross item revenue is the total revenue generated by items, excluding taxes and shipping.
- Gross Purchase Revenue (Total revenue generated from all purchases made through your website or application).
- The total amount of refunds you have given out on your app or website.
Google removed duplicate revenue metrics. Along with the introduction of the new metrics and dimensions Google has also removed the duplicative metrics below.

What did Google say? A statement was posted on the Google Analytics Announcement page in a GA4 Update.
- We recommend that you update any explorations using the Ecommerce revenue or event revenue metrics to the Purchase revenue metric.
- Use Purchase revenue to create explorations that show revenue from ecommerce. Existing explorations will continue to function with these metrics, but new ones should be using the new revenue metrics.
