Google Merchant Center now issues a warning about “inappropriate title”.

This message seems to be specific to Google Discover ads and Demand Gen ads in Google Merchant Center.

According to a screenshot from the warning, product titles that do not meet Google’s criteria will be penalised in the US with limited visibility.

Why we care. Your campaign will only be seen by fewer customers, wasting money and damaging your ROI. Google can take a while to remove a penalty, and depending on the length of time it takes to do so, the impact could be long-lasting on your account.

Google’s requirements. To avoid this type of penalty, you must ensure that your product title meets the requirements set forth by Google.

Reaction. Dennis Moons is a Google Ads Ecommerce Expert. He flagged this issue on X. This prompted a number other marketers to report the same experience. Others have suggested that the warning may be due to a “bug”, as it appears on product titles which are “harmless”. Google has not yet responded.
