-Copy Data Access: the Future of Data Management //
As the amount of data processed increases, it is necessary to use faster and more efficient techniques. The “zero copy data” access may revolutionize the way data is processed. The customer data platform is already making waves.
What is Zero Copy Data Access (ZDC)?
ZCDA is a technique which allows data to move between applications without having to copy it from one memory to another. This technique can increase the performance of applications that require a lot of data by reducing the time required to transfer data from one part of the system to another.
ZCDA eliminates the need for this step. This allows applications to directly access the memory where data is stored.
Zero copy data access in computing
Zero-copy data access can be used for a wide range of applications. Apache Arrow, for example, is a free software project which provides a platform that allows cross-language data development. Arrow is a zero-copy data access technology that allows for fast data transfers between programming languages.
ZCDA is also used to improve the performance and efficiency of in-memory database systems by reducing the time required to move data from one part of the system to another.
Salesforce/Google ZCDA partnership
Google and Salesforce have recently partnered to create , a ZDCA initiative. Two elements are involved. Salesforce can access data stored in Google Big Query’s datawarehouse. The partnership also allows Google’s Vertex AI zero-copy access to Salesforce data to train AI models. Data would have previously been copied to Vertex for training the models and then copied back to Salesforce. Models can now be trained using Salesforce data which remains in Salesforce.
What CDPs can expect
A CDP is a packaged software designed to create comprehensive customer profiles within a single database. The challenge of traditional CDPs is ingesting and adding data from different sources. This includes offline transactions, social media, as well as online transactions. This is a never-ending and time-consuming task. A CDP can also be perceived as a disadvantage, because it creates yet another data silo that separates marketing, sales, and service data, from all the other data collected by a company.
A popular solution for these challenges is allowing the CDP, in essence, to drill down into the organization’s data lake – storage, or in other words, the place where all of the data is – and use that data without having to import it into the CDP.
Simon Data is a Snowflake Data Cloud Partner that offers zero-ETL technology (extract transform load). Another example would be enterprise CDP ActionIQ and its HybridCompute feature.
Dig deeper ActionIQ now allows you to query data sources such as data lakes
Zero Copy Data Access: The Future
The future applications of zero-copy data access will include improving the performance and efficiency of emerging technologies, such as AI or machine learning. They may also make it easier to access data stored in Blockchain applications.
Zero copy data access, which eliminates the need to copy data between memory locations can improve the performance and efficiency of applications. This includes marketing technology applications. Techniques like zero-copy data access are becoming increasingly important as marketers generate more data.
