le Search Generative Experience now includes links to web pages within the answers.

Google now offers links to pages within the Search Generative Experience AI powered answers.

When you click the down-arrow icon, Google will display the webpages that helped form the part of the answer.

How it looks. This is an example screenshot of how this feature appears:

Google has also posted a GIF that shows how the system works.

Previous tests. Google began testing links in SGE answers generated by AI in three formats at the beginning of this month. Google stopped the test after 16 days, but carried on testing with the cards that have down-arrows. Google decided to stick with the link card format that uses a down-arrow.

Google has said that it will continue testing various formats.

Launch in Japan and India. Google said SGE will be launched as a beta version in other countries and languages including Japan and India. Google says that while Japanese users can use AI generative capabilities in their native language, users in India will be able use SGE both in English and Hindi.

Voice search. Google announced that SGE would also offer voice search, “so users could speak their query rather than typing it in and listen to responses. Both of these preferences are popular in both countries.”

Ads. Advertisements will continue to appear in dedicated spots on the SGE AI generated answer interfaces.

Early data from SGE. Google has also provided some general feedback about its “early experiments” with SGE.

Why we care. Google has added links to websites in its SGE AI powered answers. This is great. It has been frustrating to search marketers, searchers and publishers that there are no citations. Google said it would continue “prioritizing” approaches that drive traffic to relevant sites.
