GPT Advanced Data Analysis Plugin for PPC

ChatGPT Advanced Data Analysis (formerly Code Interpreter) has changed the game for many search marketers ever since its March launch.

John Mcalpin recently explained how to use the native OpenAI plugin for a variety of SEO use cases.

Advanced Data Analysis can also help PPC marketers quickly uncover actionable insights. Let’s find out how.

Advanced Data Analysis: How to get started

According to OpenAI, Advanced Data Analysis is an experimental ChatGPT Model that can handle uploads and downloadings.

You can upload files in a variety of formats.

After you have uploaded these file types you can perform a variety of tasks.

You can ask questions, merge files, and change the file types. But most importantly you can perform analytics and visual tasks.

It’s here that paid search marketers can make their magic.

We spend too much time combing through data, landing pages, search query reports, and ad copies.

We constantly seek out new insights and ways to improve.

We try to graph these to better communicate our findings to clients or leadership teams.

These can all be done quickly and easily without any knowledge of Excel or math.

Note: As of this writing, the beta version is available for ChatGPT Plus users and Enterprise customers.

Advanced Data Analysis for PPC

Advanced Data Analysis allows you to visualize and analyze your campaign data.

You can run any report you want from any dataset (Google Ads Analytics, Google Analytics etc.). Upload the file into the message box, and tell ChatGPT what action you want it to take.

The data in a Google Ads Report doesn’t begin until line 3.

ChatGPT could sometimes recognize it, but sometimes not.

This worked for every single time!

These are a few basic examples of keyword reports.

Prompt Can you graph the spending by day for the 5 top keywords?

You can also specify the type of graph. Here are some examples of different data views with different graph types.

This example asks for a bar graph of conversion rates according to the day of week.

It can be set to order the data by week or from highest to lowest.

In this example, I can see our conversion rates for the weekend are about 50% lower than those of Thursday and Wednesday. This data can help me to determine my budget and inventory requirements.

I also requested Advanced Data Analysis create a heatmap for the data. I can quickly identify the days that are performing best.

In the past, I had to download the data and then know how to format it conditionally.

Let’s perform a little more analysis and data visualization.

I have uploaded a spreadsheet with more than 1 million rows. Advanced Data Analysis created a scatter plot and trendline to show the relationship between these two metrics.

The large dataset was noted and a sampling method was developed to simplify the data.

It would have taken me a very long time to create a random sample of 5%.

Advanced Data Analysis produced the results in less than one minute.

Correlation analysis is another example. I wanted to know if there were any correlations between conversions and CTR or conversions by day. Below is the output from this request.

There wasn’t a lot of correlation in this data set (1 = perfectly correlated). It shows the data quickly, and you can interpret it to understand that it’s not a very high correlation.

The last example I will share is from a report of search terms with over one million rows. It asked me what keywords I should include in the negative list, because they had a high CPA and a low CTR.

This plugin is a powerful tool that can quickly understand what data you have.

In this dataset, for example, we have two columns that are custom-made to represent different conversion events.

I asked ChatGPT for the highest CPA. It added up the total conversions by adding together both conversion columns.

It did exactly what I asked it to, and it did so without my having to explain or prompt it.

Then I asked it to display the 10% of ads that were at the bottom based on this criteria. It gave me a list of bulleted items to download and upload in Google Ads.

You can get more insights and optimize your PPC campaign faster by finding ways to quickly analyze the data.

These insights are used to optimize the bids and determine the winners.

You can track the impact of this tool on search marketers and business as it evolves.

I am excited by the possibilities this presents and look forward to seeing how it evolves in the coming months.
