le Ads apologizes after automatic data migration caused confusion
Google Ads apologizes for the confusion caused by a recent update to your account.
The platform began automatically migrating Google Analytics 4 configurations to Universal Analytics, which caught advertisers off-guard.
Although these changes were planned and notifications were sent, many were surprised that the shutdown of UA took longer than they expected .
Why do we care. Advertisers are experiencing problems with their accounts after the automatic updates. This may affect their ability to monitor campaign performance and create reports. Those experiencing problems were advised to contact Support, or the Google Ads product liaison officer via X (formerly Twitter).
What’s happening? Google migrates configurations – such as “goals”, “audiences”, etc. – from your UA properties that haven’t been marked complete to your GA4 properties. The conversion swapping, audience pairing and linked Google Ads account for opted in properties are also included.
Who is affected? Who is affected?
What if I didn’t opt-out in time? If you did not opt out on time, and do not want your GA4 property configured automatically, simply follow these simple steps:
- Click on the ‘Admins’ link in your account.
- Choose your Universal Analytics property.
- Click GA4 Setup assistant in the “Property Column”.
- Click “Disconnect”, next to “Connected Property”.
- Delete your GA4 property.
The “Change History section” allows you to check for changes to your GA4 property. Changes made by automatic migration will be labeled “System (Migration),” under the “Changed By” column.
Next steps GA4 properties automatically made only have basic features. You may need to add features that are specific to your business or measurement needs in order for you get the most out of your new property.
You can also adjust the key metrics of your UA property so that they match your new GA4 properties as closely as you can.
You can compare the data in Google Ads between UA and Google GA4 if you are an advertiser.
What has Google said about it? Google Ads Product Liason Ginny Marvin said:
- Some advertisers have noticed that our system has made changes to the GA4 conv action in their Google Ads account. This is the conversion swapping part of the Setup Assistant Migration process, with the turndown Universal Analytics.”
- Advertisers who had UA properties associated with their Google Ads account were notified and given the option to opt-out of Setup Assistant configuring conversions or audiences in GA4 & applying these in Ads.
- We apologize for any confusion caused by these changes, as the turndown procedure can take some time. The updates aim to map UA conv settings to GA4 conv for bidding & eliminate duplicate measurement.
