le Search – Video Search //

Google’s new “Search in Video” feature allows you to search for spoken word in a video. Officially, this feature is being piloted by Google in India. However, some users are seeing it being tested in the United States.

The announcement. Google announced the news via its Google India blog. It wrote, “Besides images, videos can also be rich sources of visual information, but it’s often difficult to find something hidden within a long video. You might be watching a long video on Agra and wondering if it includes Fatehpur Sikri. A new feature that we are piloting allows you to search any video mentioned in it, directly from Search. You can quickly search for what you are looking for by simply entering a search term in the “Search in video” feature.

Google said, “Use Google’s ‘Search in video” feature underneath a video to quickly find what you are looking for in the video.”

This is how it looks. This video shows the feature in action.

Google key moments. This is, at least for me, not too dissimilar to the technology Google uses to highlight key moments in a video. Google can identify which sections of a video are being discussed without having to feed chapters. It is easy to see why Google Search can do this, thanks to YouTube’s advanced transcriptions.

Searchers in the United States. This feature is also being seen by searchers in the United States. Glenn Gabe tweeted that it was also his experience.

Why we care. This is not only cool, but it’s also a great example of how far search technology has advanced over the years. This could also mean that marketers posting videos need to ensure that the language is clear and that Google can accurately and properly transcribe the words.
