le’s December 2022 help content and link spam update still in effect //
Google stated that the rollout of the two Google search algorithm updates, the December 2022 useful content system as well as the December 2022 link spam update may take an additional week or so.
The December 5th update to helpful content and the Dec. 14 update to link spam began.
The rollout of algorithm updates was supposed to take two weeks. However, that is not the case.
Google has released a new statement. Google’s Search Liaison Danny Sullivan stated on Twitter that the two updates would be completed “likely in two weeks”, maybe only one week. However, he also said that it was “not a guarantee” that they will happen and that timings could change.
Why is there a delay? Rollouts take longer due to holidays. Sullivan stated earlier on Mastodon that both updates are still being rolled out. These types of updates should normally be finished by now. However, rollouts can slow down or pause during holiday periods.
Why we care. Both updates were still being released at the time of this article. When both updates are being released simultaneously, it is difficult to say if one ranking change is related to another. It is possible to see individual sites and determine if they were hit by a link algorithm or a helpful content algorithm. This is especially true if you examine the content and links for the site.
Although we have some early data regarding the impact of some of these updates’, it is difficult to accurately measure due to its long rollout.
You will need to research the sites affected by each update individually and do your due diligence. This shows that there was movement in the updates and that they did cause ranking volatility.
