Top Story
Google’s Gary Illyes explains what crawl budget is, the crawl rate limits, crawl demand, and other factors that impact a site’s crawl budget in 2017.
Illyes stated that most sites don’t have to worry about crawl budget.
Illyes stated that it is more important to prioritize what to crawl, when to crawl and how much resource the server hosting the site can dedicate to crawling for larger sites or sites that auto-generate pages using URL parameters.
Illyes has more:
- Google’s crawl rate limit is intended to prevent Google from crawling your pages too often and too quickly, which can cause damage to your server.
- Crawl demand refers to how many Google wants your pages crawled. This depends on the popularity of your pages and the quality of the content in the Google index.
- Google defines crawl budget “taking crawl rate together with crawl demand.”
Google explains the meaning of “crawl budget” for webmasters.
