Analytics firm Jumpshot shuts down

Avast, the parent company of analytics firm Jumpshot, shut down its subsidiary in 2020 after critical articles were published about its sales practices and data collection.

SparkToro founder Rand Fishkin, who presented and critiqued heavily Jumpshot’s zero-click analysis and other presentations made Jumpshot a household name in the SEO industry.

Vice, PC Mag, and Motherboard reported that Jumpshot and Avast were “secretly harvesting” browsing habits and packaging it for resale without their knowledge.

Fishkin defended the company, and criticized the publications for their biased and incomplete reporting.
