ar Pichai confirmed that Google is developing an AI search feature which users can “engage directly” with //
Google just announced its Q4 earnings hours ago. But Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google) confirmed that the search company plans to introduce AI-like search tools that “people can directly engage with.”
Sundar Pichai stated, “In the coming months and weeks, we’ll make these languages models available, starting at LaMDA so that people can interact directly with them. This will allow us to continue receiving feedback, testing, and improving them. These models are great for summarizing, composing, and constructing. These models will be even more useful to people because they offer more current and accurate information.
Sundar Pichai stated that he first spoke of Google as an AI-first company more than six years ago. “You’re going to hear a lot about us in the next few months. We will be focusing on three areas of great opportunity. He continued, saying that we published extensive information about LaMDA (the industry’s most advanced model) and PoN (the extensive work at DeepMind).
Sundar said that he would launch more products as beta features, labs products, and then slowly scale up. We need to ensure that we are constantly iterating in the public. These models will continue getting better and the field is rapidly changing. Serving costs will need to improve.”
“So it’s very, very early days. But we are committed to putting out our experiences, both in the form of new products, and also in terms of direct LLM experiences. We will make APIs available for developers, enterprises, and learn from them. Iterate as we have always done. He said that he was looking forward to it.
Sundar continues, saying, “In Search too, now we can integrate direct LLM type experiences into Search, I think that it will help expand and serve new use cases, generative case use cases.” This is why I view this opportunity to rethink, re-imagine Search and help our users solve more of their problems. In the beginning, we will be bold and open to feedback, iterating and improving upon what has been done.
Earlier reports. We reported earlier this week that Google has rumored started its own version called Apprentice Bard. CNBC reported,
The search results will show a gray bubble under the search bar when a question has been entered. This gives more human-like answers than standard search results. The page also suggests several questions that can be followed up on the original one. It shows search results as well as links and headlines.
Google has responded:
“We have been focusing on AI development and deployment to improve people’s lives for a long time. AI is fundamental and transformative technology. It is extremely useful for individuals, businesses, and communities. As our AI Principles outline we must also consider the wider societal impact these innovations could have. We are continuing to use our AI technology internally to ensure it is safe and useful. We look forward to sharing more of our experiences with the public.
Microsoft. Microsoft has also invested heavily in OpenAI (creators of ChatGPT). Rumours suggest that Microsoft will soon bring GPT-4 to Bing Search. These technologies are being taken seriously by many companies, particularly search firms, after the explosion of ChatGPT’s debut.
Why we care. We don’t yet know how Google and Bing will incorporate these Q&A-style AI features into search. It is a space marketers should be monitoring to see how they can use it to their advantage and to help their customers.
