Google today announced many improvements to Google Search, Google Lens and Google Maps. This is from the live streaming from Paris this morning. We initially thought that it would be about Google’s AI efforts for Search, but that was quickly changed to Google Bard.
What is the latest? Google spent some time showcasing Bard once again. We covered that in detail here.
Multisearch / Lens updates
Google has announced some updates and additional information in multisearch, Android, and Google Lens that are specific to Google Search.
What is Google multisearch? Google multisearch allows you to use your phone’s camera and search for an image using Google Lens. You can then add a text query to the image search. Google will use the image as well as the text query to provide visual search results.
What is near me multisearch? Near me allows you to zoom in on image and text queries, by using your camera to search for products or any other information. You can also use this feature to locate local results. You can search for a particular dish in a restaurant.
- Multisearch will soon be available on the internet. Google stated that we will soon see Multisearch on mobile devices.
- Multisearch is now available worldwide on mobile in all languages and countries that Lens is supported.
- Multisearch near you will soon expand to images on the internet globally via mobile devices in the coming months.
Google Lens – 10 billion. Google Lens allows you to snap a picture and Google will give you more information about the photo. Google says that Google Lens is being used over 10 billion times per month. It seems like Google Lens is a way to encourage usage.
Google Maps Updates
Google will soon release new features in Google Maps for Electric Vehicles (EVs), glanceable directions, immersive views, and indoor live views.
- View your route overview or lock screen to see your directions. This includes information like estimated arrival times and next turn details, without you having to open the Google app. Google stated that this feature will be available on iOS and Android devices within the next few months.
- Immersive View Launching in More Cities, including London, Los Angeles and New York, San Francisco and Tokyo today, as well as Florence, Venice and Amsterdam in the next months.
- In the next months, Search with Live View will be available in Barcelona, Madrid, and Dublin.
- Indoor live viewing will be coming to more than 1,000 new airports and train stations in cities in the next few months. These include in London, Paris and Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona.
- EV Map new features will be rolling out over the next months. These include a filter to locate fast chargers charging over 150 kilowatts. It will also show you where EV chargers are available. And, perhaps most importantly, Google will allow you to add stops along your journey for charging your electric vehicle.
Google Translate Updates
Google has launched new Google Translate features, including an improved design, AR enhancements and contextual translation options.
- Google Translate for Android will soon have a new design. It will feature a more visible screen, easier features, and new gestures to help you navigate your most recent and frequent translations.
- We have covered translation and AR with seamless translation. Now, it is being rolled out worldwide.
- Google Translate will soon offer contextual translation options that provide richer and more contextual translations for single words, phrases, and phrases that have multiple meanings. This will help searchers understand the context and determine the best translation. In the coming weeks, this will be available in English, French and German as well as Japanese and Spanish. It will continue to expand over the next few months to include more languages.
