Google’s new “Tag Coverage” feature allows you to see which tags on your website are firing and which aren’t. This summary can be accessed via Google Tag Manager and Google Ads.

What is Tag Coverage? Google Tag Manager has a feature called Tag Coverage that lets you see a summary showing which tags are firing and which aren’t. This is particularly useful for complex websites that have multiple tags, or if you want to verify everything is working properly after making changes to the tags.

The following information is displayed in the summary of tag coverage:

  1. Total number of tags found on the website
  2. Number of tags currently firing
  3. Number of tags not firing
  4. No data tags
  5. No tags on pages

How to use Tag Coverage. These steps will allow you to access the Tag Coverage feature within GTM:

  1. Register for your GTM account.
  2. Choose the container that you wish to see.
  3. From the left-hand navigation menu, click “Tags”.
  4. From the sub-menu, click “Tag Coverage”.

Once you have accessed the Tag Coverage summary you can begin using it to analyze your tags. These are just a few of the ways that you can make use of this feature.

  1. You can identify which tags aren’t firing by using the Tag Coverage summary. You can troubleshoot an issue if you notice that a tag doesn’t fire.
  2. Analyze the data. The summary will show you which pages contain tags and which don’t. This information can be used to identify pages that might need additional tracking and to optimize your tags on certain pages.
  3. Optimize your tags You may need to adjust the tag configuration or add triggers to make sure the tag fires correctly.
