le opens Bard to a small number of users //

Google has opened Google Bard to the public, which is its answer to ChatGPT, and other AI chat solutions to the public. If you’re based in the United States or UK, there is now an option to sign up for a waitlist at bard.google.com.

I signed up. However, you can’t use your Google Workspace account for signing up. You need to use a personal Google Account to sign up.

Bard not Search. Google Bard is not an alternative to Search. Bard is distinct from Search. Therefore, referring to Search screenshots within the context of Bard is not accurate. Bard is one thing. The generative AI features found in Search are also separate. Bard is an experience that can be used alone, and not in Search,” Jack Krawczyk (product lead for Bard) stated some time ago.

This is what it looks like. This is the Google video of Bard in action

Here’s a Google screenshot of Bard:

Impressions. Bard is not available to me yet, but I have been told that I should soon have it. The Verge reviewed Bard, and stated that Bard was “certainly faster than either of them (though this could simply be because it currently has fewer people) and appears to have the same potential capabilities as these other systems. It was also capable of generating lines of code in our tests. It also lacks Bing’s clearly labeled Footnotes. Google claims that they only appear when it directly quotes an article or news article. However, it seemed more limited in its answers.

Why we care. Now we are closer to Google Bard being released into the wild. It will be interesting to see how users use Bard and where Bard may shine. Also, watch out for Bard’s integration into Search in the coming weeks and months. Sign up now for the waitlist to gain access.
