Bing attracts Edge Users – Who then use Google Search //
According to BrightEdge, new data shows that people who downloaded Microsoft Edge to test out the New Bing Chat experience ended up using Google Search on Edge.
Why do we care. Watch out for any data that might indicate whether The New Bing may be threatening Google’s huge lead in search. We see more evidence that Microsoft drives more traffic to websites – but this time they are doing it via Edge rather than Bing.
This is what the data show. Google has consistently sent over 3 million visits to websites every year since 2023. However, Google Edge browser traffic has seen a significant increase since February 19, with a noticeable rise in visits. This number reached 3.7 million visits in the week ending March 12.
Traffic from Bing Edge has also seen some growth over the past year. It went from just over 5,000,000 to about 5.5million as of the week ended March 12. However, the data suggests that less traffic came from Bing Edge as it became more popular.
BrightEdge analyzed more than 600,000,000,000 visits to websites in all major industries. It compared U.S traffic from Google and Bing by browser (Chrome Vs. Edge).
Google gets an Edge. More 1,000,000 people signed-up within 48 hours to test the new Bing. However, they were stuck on a waiting list, sometimes for weeks.
All those who downloaded Edge stayed with it. Many people started to use Google Search on Edge for searching instead of Bing.
We will be able to answer the big question of whether the Edge browser’s limitation of GPT-4 integration into Bing Chat was a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, we don’t yet have this data.
Lemuel Parker, BrightEdge’s co-founder and CTO, stated that it is too early to know how Google and Bing will evolve or if there will be a major market dominance shift. “However Bing will undoubtedly grow in popularity as more people try its new capabilities,” said Lemuel Park, BrightEdge co-founder and CTO.
More data. Additional data. The new Bing is making small gains on Google Search. This includes page visits to Bing increasing by 15.8% and Bing becoming an important referral source for some publishers.
