le now supports merchant listings with return policy structured data.
Google has added new information about return policies to the structured data product help section for merchant listings. Google added this information on the day it began showing return and shipping information within its search results.
What’s new? Google added a returns section within the Product Structured Data Document. These new property types are for merchant listings and not product snippets. Google explained that you can use these new properties to allow your merchant listing to display return policy details, such as return fees and a window of time for returning a product.
Technical details. The properties required include:
- Use the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 formatted two-letter country code to specify the country for which the return policy is applicable. You can specify as many countries as you like.
- returnPolicyCategory: The type of return policy.
Recommended properties include:
- merchantReturnDays : The number days after the date of delivery that a product may be returned. This property is only required if you set the returnPolicyCategory to MerchantReturnFiniteReturnWindow.
- returnFees : Type of return fees. This property only needs to be set if there is no charge for returning the product. If you use this property, you must set the value to https://schema.org/FreeReturn (other return fee types aren’t supported; if there are fees, use the returnShippingFeesAmount property instead).
- returnMethod : The type or method of returning. This is only recommended if you set the returnPolicyCategory to either MerchantReturnFiniteReturnWindow or MerchantReturnUnlimitedWindow.
- returnShippingFeesAmount: The cost of shipping for product returns. This property only needs to be used if there is a cost associated with returning a product. Use the returnFees instead if the cost is zero.
Why we care. We wrote yesterday that if you are a seller of products, including the shipping and returns details, the product price, the reviews, and other rich results to your snippet can help you not only gain attention and visibility for your snippets in Google Search, but may also impact your click-through rates.
You can highlight your shipping and return policy through Google Merchant Center, structured data and Google Search.
