Alphabet Inc. (parent company of Google) reported that Advertising revenues decreased slightly in the first quarter 2023. Search revenue increased by almost 2% year-over-year.
Overall impressions. These results show that Google’s advertising platform has a mixed performance in terms of impressions. Google entered the first quarter this year with almost 27,000 more employees than the previous year, despite all the layoffs. It was stated that the “number of employees” included almost all employees who were affected by our reduction in workforce. By the end of 2023 we expect that most of those who are affected will not be included in our employee count, depending on local laws and consultation requirements.

Why do we care? Google, though slightly down, is still the leader in search. Its momentum appears to be waning due to the increased number of Microsoft users, ChatGPT and other technological advancements.
