le no longer requires video description as part of structured data
Google has removed the requirement that your video structured data include the description property. Google states that it is recommended but not required to include a video description in structured data. Google Search Console won’t report any errors if the description property item is missing.
Changes to structured data. Google changed the “description property” from “required to “recommended”. You can view here.
Google uses the description to understand the video. However, it is not a requirement anymore for video structured data.
Changes to the Search Console. Google has stated that the description property for Video structured data is no longer necessary. Google wrote that “it is still strongly recommended” to help Google understand the content of your videos.
The rich report will no longer list missing description issues as “critical issues”. You may now see an increase in valid Video structured data in your report, if you didn’t use descriptions.
Why we care. This will make it easier to publish structured video data, and Google should pick up on them as rich results. You may find that your video thumbnails appear for more videos, and you might see a greater click-through rate in Google Search.
