p enterprise SEO tools compared: A comprehensive evaluation //

SEO Tools are crucial for optimizing content on websites and increasing organic traffic. They are also important in enterprise SEO.

I have observed, throughout my career, that many organizations need tools that are more scalable and aligned with the needs of large organizations.

Enterprise SEO requires complex collaboration among multiple teams, and the management of intricate websites.

As a result, I have reevaluated different tools in order to create a plan tailored for the needs of the team and the organization.

This article classifies popular SEO tools according to their strengths and weakness in terms of content optimization, technical SEO and reporting and analytics.

This includes both my own opinion and that of the team.

The team was using non-enterprise software tools:

The tools evaluated by the enterprise:

The tools were evaluated based on a number of criteria.

Content optimization

In ecommerce, and especially in B2B businesses, content is essential. In a B2B setting, SEOs ensure that the content is presented effectively to users during their entire purchasing journey.

Semrush, according to our evaluations, is a flexible tool that aligns Google’s data with search volume results and provides insights into search intent.

Ahrefs is a keyword research tool that supports link building. ClearScope provides content optimization, grading and grading of articles but lacks Grammarly integration.

ScreamingFrog helps with technical audits. Botify integrates Semrush to improve content. SeoClarity provides optimization recommendations as well as collaboration features.

Semrush

Semrush offers a variety of features that can be used to optimize content. They claim that they can provide keyword search intent (though we didn’t use this feature) in order to improve audience targeting and engagement.

The search volume results from Semrush’s Keyword Magic Tool can be helpful for performing a keyword study.

There have been some comments that Semrush has inaccurate data. This tweet by Carlos Avendano, and This conversation by Mark Preston and Rich Missey, a former colleague of mine.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a keyword research tool that offers difficulty scores for keywords. It also estimates the number of links needed to rank. It gives search volume and data on clicks, which can give you insights into the user’s behavior and possible traffic generation.

Ahrefs helps users to identify opportunities for link building. Ahrefs data has also been criticized for being inaccurate, similar to Semrush data.

ClearScope

ClearScope offers a complete tool for optimizing content. It provides a comprehensive list of terms related to the topic and their importance. This helps with keyword targeting.

ClearScope allows content to be created in multiple languages and grades it based on its ranking potential. It needs to be more integrated with Grammarly, and it has limitations when editing reports.

ScreamingFrog

ScreamingFrog offers features like word count analysis and duplication page checks. It can crawl JavaScript enabled content and give insights into technical SEO improvements.

Botify

Botify is an extremely versatile tool. It allows users to filter the word count, and it integrates with Semrush in order to get keyword data. It helps with content optimization, and identifies opportunities for improving content.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge, an AI-powered content recommendation tool, provides detailed recommendations to improve execution and scaleability.

It is a great tool for researching keywords and discovering competitor strategies. It lacks keyword intent data and has a limited number of tracked keywords.

SeoClarity

seoClarity provides optimization recommendations based upon top-ranking web pages, and also offers relevant terms to optimize content.

It allows for team collaboration, and it provides instant content optimization checks. It provides a large competitive dataset to help with keyword research.

Tech SEO

The technical SEO is essential for increasing a website’s visibility and performance on search engine results.

Search engines will index and crawl your site more effectively if you have a mobile-friendly site, XML sitemaps and a site that is structured properly.

As an engineer/developer with a background in web development, I have found that many issues are encountered during the process of developing dynamic websites (from 100,000 to upwards 60-70,000,000 URLs).

I often present minor issues to the engineering teams, but they are ignored.

Even if you have just a few issues, they can have a negative impact on your rankings. This is especially true if the competing site doesn’t have so many problems.

Semrush provides a report on site audits. It needs to be more detailed for enterprise sites. Ahrefs or ClearScope do not offer significant technical support for SEO.

BrightEdge offers similar features, including crawl settings and JavaScript support.

ScreamingFrog works well for smaller sites but can be time-consuming to use for larger websites. Botify is a crawler that excels at customizations, deep-level insight and crawling.

Semrush

Semrush’s on-page SEO Checker provides actionable tips for improvement, prioritized per page. It can also be used in conjunction with Google Search Console, to ensure that optimization efforts are thorough.

Semrush has a limitation in that it only allows you to select the crawl source from a list, rather than being able to choose multiple sources for broader crawling.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs does not have any technical pros or con mentioned. This means that there are no major drawbacks to its technical functionality.

ClearScope

ClearScope does not mention any technical pros or con, which suggests that it has few technical limitations.

ScreamingFrog

ScreamingFrog works best on small to medium websites, since it is run from the computer of the user. They do offer suggestions for scaling up with Google’s Compute Engine at an extra cost.

The crawling of larger websites may also take a long time, depending on what system you use.

ScreamingFrog SEO Crawler offers comprehensive website analysis. It identifies broken links, duplicated content, and missing Meta Tags.

This tool also helps improve the visibility of websites by providing insights into technical SEO issues, such as server errors and incorrect URL structure.

The crawler also allows small website owners discover optimization opportunities through the analysis of page titles, Meta descriptions, and heading tags.

This tool helps with data-driven optimizations to improve search engine rankings.

The tool also helps to improve navigation on websites by identifying broken hyperlinks and navigational problems. This enhances the user experience.

ScreamingFrog SEO Crawler automates the analysis process, saving time and effort. It scans the whole website quickly and generates detailed reports that highlight areas of concern.

This tool is a great time-saver for those who are working on smaller sites. It’s especially useful for website owners with fewer resources.

Botify

Botify is a crawler that offers a high crawl rate per page.

It integrates various tools to provide a holistic view of the site’s performance.

Botify’s ActionBoard provides valuable insights and recommendations for prioritizing SEO actions.

Botify’s technical performance is a solid one, as no cons were noted.

I have always loved Botify because it was the foundation of my ability to perform in my SEO roles.

I’ve found issues with the website and have provided charts and reports on the spot to justify to the engineering team the amount of effort that would be required to fix them.

I’ve used this tool to communicate with engineers at some of most prominent companies in the tech sector.

I gave Engineers direct access to Botify at GitHub. They were using the Action Board, building reports, and gaining insights from their work.

Botify helped us identify a 404 error that was caused by an external agency who had redesigned the entire subdomain before going live.

It’s easy to say that I’m biased because I’m seen on the homepage of the company with a quote directly from me. I’d be happy to discuss it with anyone who is willing to listen.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge provides multiple source crawling and crawl settings as well as JavaScript support. This allows for flexibility in analysis.

The data filters can be used to fine-tune the analysis. The capabilities are not as good as ScreamingFrog and Botify.

SeoClarity

BrightEdge offers many of the same features as seoClarity, such as crawl settings, JavaScript support, and crawling multiple sources.

The data filters are also flexible and can be customized. The capabilities of ScreamingFrog and Botify are not replaced by BrightEdge.

Estimates of time for SEO tasks

Reporting and Analytics

Reporting and Analytics play an important role in SEO, providing insight into performance, key performance indicators (KPIs), and user behavior.

Reporting is crucial to any SEO success. We need to show not only our accomplishments, but also understand the amount of work that might be required for certain SEO tasks.

Some tools do not provide the reporting that the team needs.

Botify’s reporting capabilities are the most robust, as it integrates seamlessly into Adobe Search Console and Google Search Console.

BrightEdge offers extensive historical data, while seoClarity provides complete competitor monitoring. However, historical reports may be charged.

Semrush

Semrush domain analysis features a feature known as the “competitive position map,” which provides a comprehensive view of a website’s performance in comparison to its key competitors.

The limitation to only be able to analyse up to five sites of competitors may limit the scope of competitor research.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a leader in ranking tracking. It provides accurate data that closely resembles actual rankings on Google. The historical data can be used to analyze past rankings and make comparisons.

Ahrefs’ competitor analysis is also limited to 10 sites. This may limit the scope of competitor research.

ClearScope

Clearscope’s Content Inventory feature, which is yet to be used, offers the benefit of listing and tracking optimized pages as well as their current grade. It integrates Google Search Console for monitoring page performance.

The content inventory feature is limited, however, and can only track up to 50 pages. It also tracks up to three keywords per page. This may be a problem for large websites that have extensive content.

ScreamingFrog

ScreamingFrog is primarily focused on technical SEO, such as site crawling and analysis, and not analytics or reporting.

Botify

Botify has several noteworthy features. These include integrating Adobe Analytics data, Tableau, Google Analytics and Google Search Console and possibly other analytics to create customized reports and insights.

The tool also offers features such as keyword-to traffic analysis, conversion data tracking for individual pages, and keyword tracking tools to monitor SERP rankings.

Botify’s analytics and reporting were praised for their performance.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge is unique in its ability to track historical data. Users can even go back to 2014.

This tool allows you to view and export data on desktop and mobile rankings and optimization.

BrightEdge, like Botify, integrates with Adobe Analytics (among other tools), Google Analytics and Google Search Console for improved performance tracking and forecasting.

BrightEdge is a good addition to the reporting requirements.

SeoClarity

The seoClarity competitor research feature allows you to monitor multiple competitors at once without any limitations. It integrates with other analytical tools such as BrightEdge or Botify to provide customized reports and insights.

SeoClarity also offers historical data analyses with default time periods of 13 months in web analytics, and 16 months in Google Analytics.

The cost of running historical reports can vary depending on how the data was processed.

Miscellaneous features

For companies looking to tap into the global market, optimizing SEO for multiple languages is essential for increasing reach and improving user experience.

We evaluated each tool’s support of international SEO, multiple language optimization, user management, customer support and user access.

Semrush provides comprehensive support for international markets, while Ahrefs is a credit system that has limited API access.

Both BrightEdge & seoClarity are also excellent at keyword translation & customizable user administration. The team that was used for this review only had a few logins to share among 10 SEOs.

Unfortunately, they were using multiple tools to complete their tasks and restricting who could use them at any time. This caused more time for the work to be completed.

User administration was one of the most important factors in our review. BrightEdge and seoClarity were the best with unlimited users per their contracts. They also provided robust support and helped identify growth opportunities.

Semrush

Semrush provides comprehensive support to international markets including site audits and keyword research as well as competitor analysis for countries such the UK, France and Germany.

Semrush has yet to offer any advantages in terms of user administration, which may indicate that the software needs to have more capabilities.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a credit system, where users are charged credits to access data from their tools. This excludes Site Audit and Ranking Tracker.

Credits cannot be transferred between users. Additional costs can occur if the credit limit is exceeded or if you add users.

Ahrefs’ pricing and plans changed in March 2022 and the team required assistance to maintain the legacy account.

Despite the fact that they had API access, due to its complexity, they didn’t use it fully.

ClearScope

ClearScope does not cater to international SEO as it is primarily focused on technical SEO via crawling and analyzation rather than global optimization.

ClearScope offers the benefit of up to 10 different accounts. This can be useful for teams and individuals who have diverse needs.

ClearScope is a user-friendly platform that has a great deal of efficiency.

ClearScope has been intuitive and reliable, as they have only had to contact the customer support team during renewal periods.

They only had one problem: they used the tool to concentrate on the content of a single page at a given time, and did not use many other features.

ScreamingFrog

ScreamingFrog is a technical SEO tool that focuses primarily on crawling, analysis and other technical aspects. It does not provide support for specific international markets.

The performance of the application is dependent on the machine specifications. This includes factors such as RAM, storage, the processor and others.

There may also be crawl errors for certain URLs, due to limitations in the crawling procedure.

SEO Spider may encounter errors such as connection refusals, timeouts and HTTP status codes like 404, 404A, 404B, 404C, and 500.

To resolve each error, specific steps and checks must be taken to ensure that the web crawling and analysis is successful.

Botify

Botify offers unlimited user accounts, the ability to create teams and customize capability management. This allows for greater flexibility and scalability when it comes to user administration.

Botify also offers Professional Services as part of its contract. This package provides comprehensive customer support, helping to identify growth opportunities and address any concerns or issues that may arise.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge provides international users with valuable keyword translation capability and assistance from its international team. This allows them to optimize keywords for different languages and target market with the correct intent.

It offers an unlimited number of user accounts, with customisable capability settings. This allows for seamless management, personalization, and customization.

The number of users can be unlimited. Access permissions and restrictions allow team members to control access for external individuals.

BrightEdge’s Customer Success team offers comprehensive support, helps identify growth potentials to address questions or challenges and enhance the user experience.

SeoClarity

SeoClarity’s rank tracking feature is an excellent tool for international SEO. It supports multiple languages and allows comprehensive tracking in different regions.

Content Fusion is also available in 12 languages to cater to a variety of target markets, and also boost international SEO efforts.

SeoClarity does not limit the number of users who can access its platform.

It offers both access permissions as well as restrictions. This allows for the creation of restricted external accounts and grants them access to certain features, while still maintaining control over access levels.

SeoClarity also provides outstanding support via its Client Success Team. This team ensures prompt assistance and comprehensive help for any questions or problems.

Plans, features and cost

Semrush

We had limited access to the Business Plan, which caused delays and issues as our team used it and sometimes kicked one another off.

Semrush plans start at $119.95 for five projects, 500 tracked keyword, and 10,000 results in each report. Additional administrative users can be added for $45 per monthly and additional features such as local optimization are available for $40 per monthly.

Add an additional $200 per month for Trends. ImpactHero, an AI tool that breaks down content into buyer journey stages with tips and provides insights, can be added to the platform for $200 extra per month.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs Enterprise Annual Plan was used. Plans start at $99 per month and go up to $999 if you want the Enterprise level.

Ahrefs only offers credits and more users. We used them when we needed to.

ClearScope

ClearScope’s plans begin at $170 per monthly, with custom pricing available for more comprehensive plans. For more comprehensive plans, you’ll need a quote from a sales representative.

ScreamingFrog

Anyone can download ScreamingFrog and run a crawl on their computer (or setup a virtual machine, which may cost more).

To access the advanced features, you must buy a license. This allows you to crawl more than 500 URLs in a single domain.

One license costs $259 annually, plus an additional $259 for each license. The cost per license will decrease if you require more than four licenses.

Botify

Botify’s Pricing and Packages page does not include pricing information. However, you can still understand the different packages. For a demo or a quote, you need to speak with a sales representative.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge doesn’t have a pricing page on its website, but a representative can provide a demo or a quote.

SeoClarity

The seoClarity core plan begins at $3,000 per month for small and medium teams who track less than 5,000 keywords on one domain.

The Professional package is ideal for teams in enterprise who need to track over 5,000 keywords across multiple domains. The Professional plan begins at $4,500 a month.

To schedule a demonstration and receive a customized quote, it’s best that you contact a representative via their pricing and plans page.

Bottom Line

My SEO team’s success depends on content optimization. There are many tools with useful features available for this purpose.

The team chose seoClarity for its content grading and real-time evaluation of search results.

Botify is my personal favorite. Botify is my personal favorite because of its speedy crawling and extensive analysis features. It also integrates with web log data and seamlessly integrates Google Search Console (or other analytics tools data) into Botify.

The tools listed above provide useful insights. However, it is important to examine a list of other tools such as Conductor, SpyFu and SparkToro to evaluate their pros and cons for technical SEO, analytics and reporting.
