le Search bug led to a decrease in video traffic
Google confirmed that a bug within Google Search caused a decrease in traffic for video content from May 4 to May 17, 2023. It was not a Google Search Console bug but rather a bug in Google Search.
What Google wrote. Google wrote, “A bug has caused a decrease in video traffic between May 4 and May 17; it’s been fixed.”
John Mueller, a Google employee, told me that this wasn’t just a glitch in reporting. It was more than that. He told me that it was more than just reporting.
Search Console reports. You can find reports in Google Search Console.
Why we care. This bug may be responsible for a decrease in traffic you’ve noticed between May 4 and May 17, if you have a lot video content.
In this instance, it was not the reporting that was the problem and the reports were accurate. A bug in Google Search caused fewer videos to appear in search results.
