le removes social sharing tool AddThis
Oracle has removed AddThis, a social sharing and analytics tool from its Marketing Cloud services. AddThis widgets, which enabled visitors to share their content on social networks, were removed without warning from the sites of customers who had used them.
Oracle sent out a notice stating that they planned to discontinue all AddThis services on May 31. The statement stated that the termination was part of “a periodic review of our product portfolio”.
Oracle acquired AddThis by 2016.
Why do we care? AddThis is a tool that was used by upwards of 15,000,000 publishers. It allowed web users to share content easily on social media, but it also provided publishers with analytics via dashboards and weekly reports.
What’s next. Oracle’s notice provided AddThis users with the following instructions:
- AddThis must be immediately stopped by the user and all AddThis code and technology removed from their website.
- The AddThis button may disappear from a user’s website;
- AddThis Dashboard associated with AddThis registration and all AddThis support will be discontinued.
- AddThis will not function with any features that were configured to interact with the user’s website, other Oracle services or third-party plug-ins and tools.
