AI applications for small business marketing

According to a recent study by American Express, 41 percent of small business owners are considering the use of AI to make decisions. Customer service and marketing are the two most popular applications of AI technology.

AI Use Cases. Small business owners said that they were considering AI in a variety of applications. 39% of small businesses who are considering AI will use tools that help them save time.

AI would also be used to improve customer service, with 20% of respondents saying they’d use it to enhance security.

Size of the company matters. Bigger companies are more willing to experiment with AI. The larger small businesses (101 to 500 employees) are more open to using AI than the smaller businesses (10 to under 100 employees). That’s 75% as opposed to 16%.

The generation gap. Younger entrepreneurs and business owners are more likely to use AI in their organizations than older owners.

Millennials and Gen Z businesses of all sizes, including those of smaller size, are more likely to prioritize AI than older businesses (24%).

Overall, larger businesses are more confident. More than half (54%) said that they were confident about making good growth decisions.

The study found that only 29% of small businesses rated themselves as confident, compared to 64% of larger small businesses.

Why we care. AI is a growing area of interest for businesses of all sizes. They are focusing on marketing and customer services as the two areas in which they can be used most effectively.

According to the American Express Study, large organizations are more willing to experiment while smaller businesses lack the confidence. It is only natural that this would happen with disruptive technologies and after the recent disruptions many small businesses experienced.
