X (formerly Twitter) has failed to pay content producers who signed up for their ad revenue share offer.

Elon Musk’s platform says it underestimated the popularity of the program and needs more time before processing payments.

X initially said that the payout would take place in the week of July 31, but has yet to confirm an estimated date.

Why do we care? X launched an ad revenue sharing program to encourage marketers to return to the platform, after advertising revenue in the US fell by 59% when Musk became CEO last year. Failure to honor its promises will negatively affect advertisers’ trust and could also damage the company’s reputation. X may need to clarify why it is having trouble with sign-ups, given that revenue sharing criteria are so strict.
