le Search now indexes CSV files

Google Search can now index Comma Separated Values (.csv). This is a new addition to the file types that are indexable by Google . John Mueller, a Google employee, confirmed that this was not just an update to a Google Search help document but also a major update in terms of what Google Search can index.

More details. I noticed the update this morning and wondered if it was something new or not just an update for clarification. John Mueller confirmed to me via Twitter that this new feature has been added to Google Search.

More changes. In the March version of this help page, CSV was not listed as a type of file. It also did not include these two sections:

I’m pretty sure Google could index these image formats, and many, if no all, of the video formats. This is most likely just a clarification. The CSV format, however, is new when it comes to functionality.

Why we care. Google now has the ability to index CSV files that are available on the internet. Google Search will now index CSV files if they are relevant to the search query. You can prevent Google from indexing your CSV files if you do not want them to appear in Google Search.
