Mobile intrusive interstitials penalties
Google introduced the mobile intrusive interstitials penality in 2017.
Google declared in August 2016 that it would lower the ranking of pages where content was not “easily accessible for a user during the transition from mobile search results”. This crackdown will begin Jan. 10, 2017.
Google did this because they believed it was necessary. Google believed that this type of advertisement was not suitable for smaller mobile screens.
Google explained the types of interstitials that could be problematic, including:
- A popup that displays the main content immediately after the user navigates through search results.
- A standalone interstitial displayed that the user must dismiss before they can access the main content.
- A layout in which the top-of-the-fold section of the page looks like a standalone interstitial. However, the original content is placed underneath the fold.
You can read all about it here: Google confirms the rollout of the mobile intrusive institials penalty yesterday.
