ou want to do SEO in 2023? Here’s how.
Millions of people set new year’s resolutions each year. Most fail in the first month. This is similar to the SEO work that we didn’t complete last year.
Many businesses, even those with the best intentions, find it difficult to get started on their SEO journey. They fail because of a variety of reasons, including lackluster buy-in and inordinate effort.
You must resolve to implement SEO in 2023 to make your site more competitive in search results. These are five ways to overcome common SEO obstacles.
SEO resolution 1: Share your vision
It is not a strategy to point to an SEO audit and say, “We have to do that.” It is important to be able discuss the vision of your SEO program.
These could include:
SEO: Why SEO is a key initiative
What are the current trends that indicate SEO is a major marketing activity? Perhaps it’s the 5.9 million searches that Google makes every minute.
The bottom line is that it’s not a matter of whetheryou should use a platform used almost by the entire U.S. population. But, do you want to beat your competitors and earn your fair portion of organic search revenues?
What are your goals and key performance indicators?
Demonstrate that you have thought about the goals and KPIs that will help you measure them.
How will you get there?
What are the steps to get the program running? Who will you need to support?
SEO resolution 2: Get real buy-in
Are you have buy in for SEO purposes? It’s the kind of buy-in where CEO says it’s a crucial initiative. It can be difficult to get the needle moving beyond your department without this kind of “all in” attitude.
My company provided more than 100 pages of an SEO audit for one of the largest review and research sites in the automotive sector.
We suggested radical changes to the system and assured them that they would see an influx of traffic if they implemented all of them.
The client was aware of the risks involved. They knew that they would need to have everyone involved to make it happen from IT to marketing. The chairman of the board called a meeting in the company and stated that SEO would be a major strategic initiative.
Guess what? They collaborated to implement each recommendation and saw a 900% rise in traffic the first week after launch. They are still competitive today.
This type of buy-in requires preparation. There are a few things you need to do if you want to promote SEO in your business.

SEO Resolution 3: Build Relationships
A company isn’t made up of roles or departments, but it is made up people. Building strong relationships is key to success in business and getting things done.
Once you have identified the key people needed for SEO, you can meet with them either one-on-one or in groups to:
- Explain how SEO can help them achieve their business goals. There are rarely any business goals that cannot be met by SEO. Make sure to assess their needs and determine how SEO can help them.
- Let them know that they are an integral part of making this work. Most people don’t realize how their daily work can have an impact on SEO. How can they contribute to SEO’s success?
SEO Resolution 4: Learn about SEO
Get everyone on board with SEO. You must remember that many people will only have a limited understanding of SEO (outside your immediate team). Keep it simple.
You should verify your SEO advice as much as possible with Google’s recommendations. (See help files from Google Search Central and Google Search Central videos). ).
This makes it clear that SEO is a partnership between Google and you are not trying to manipulate the system.
SEO Training is key. When I first started my agency, I realized quickly that the best way for clients to implement SEO was by training them. This was the catalyst that led to our 1999 SEO training course.
We have been able to bring all our clients into our SEO training, so we can have intelligent conversations and help move the needle.
You should consider SEO training for all those involved. This includes web developers and IT personnel. It is my experience that companies who offer SEO training to their employees across the company create a sense of community and encourage people to do things.
SEO Resolution 5: Make an effort
Some people will not see a 900% increase of traffic in the first week. This is similar to the example company I mentioned earlier. It can take up six months for big results to begin depending on factors such as the website’s health and the competitive landscape.
When they don’t get the results they want, some companies might give up. This is a common mistake, and it’s a result not understanding SEO (see the educate section).
To stay competitive, companies must invest in SEO throughout the site’s lifecycle. You must remember that once you invest in SEO, it is yours. ).
However, there are methods to quickly win and see results that get people excited about search engine optimization. Consider a pilot project, which could look like this:
- Plan to prioritise the most important SEO tasks and then track and share your progress.
- Small SEO project with key members of the company.
You may be able build momentum with a few small wins. Remember, however, that technical SEO problems can sometimes be the biggest problem for a website. These issues can be difficult to resolve.
You will need website developers, IT people, or at the very minimum, someone to help you make changes to your website.
Here’s a tip: Technical changes can be submitted to the site as “bug fixes”. Developers and IT professionals are passionate about fixing bugs and want you to succeed.
Make 2023 count
It can be difficult to get an SEO program up and running.
Start small, take the most important steps first, and celebrate each win. These steps will build momentum over time, as you’ll see.
