Google Panda name revealed
Amit Singhal of Google and Matt Cutts from Google revealed in 2011 that Google Panda was actually the name of the update, which was informally called Farmer at its launch on February 24, 2011.
“Well, we named the thing internally after an engineer, whose name is Panda. “So internally, we called it a big Panda,” Singhal stated in a Wired interview. Steven Levy was one of the key men. It was his breakthrough that made it possible a few months ago.
Google claimed that the launch by “Caffeine”, the indexing infrastructure, inadvertently increased the visibility of “shallow contents.”
“Our index grew quickly and we were crawling at an even faster pace. We got lots of new content and some less good. The problem was no longer random gibberish that the spam team had taken care of but more prose. Singhal said that the content was not good enough.
